Biography

jess_villegasJess Villegas, Principal and Founder of the Leading Concepts Group, Inc., is part of a growing force of business executives who understand that leadership, managerial, and organizational effectiveness are not adjunct to a business career, but vital components in the process of successfully leading oneself and others.  Business leaders often consider these “soft-skills” and thereby elective, and marginalize the significance of people effectiveness.  This is simply incorrect.  It is egocentric, shortsighted, and lazy.  If one could relate the organization to a family, few would dispute that congruence abounds when the environment is pervasive with empathy, respect, responsibility, purpose, and most essentially, love.  However trite it may sound, a business organization is a family and a complex living system.  It consists of an extraordinary number of variables and interactions all expressing at any point in time an aggregate result that falls on a spectrum of acceptable for the objective, or not.  Preparation for managing complexity in organizations is not a linear process.  It embraces the wholeness of leveraging every personal and business experience, big or small, positive or negative, into an understanding of organizational systems in the context of optimum business performance and profitability.

Jess is a business executive with 25 years of extensive experience driving profitability in multi-site manufacturing and distribution environments.  He is skilled in the development of strong-accountability management teams, the design and execution of complex business strategies, and the optimization of resources to meet business objectives.  He is recognized as an engaged and effective leader, utilizing exceptional communication and team-building skills to facilitate environments of high trust and performance.  He has managed in the roles of CEO, President, VP Operations, Director of New Business Development, and Division Controller, in various industries including packaging, lawn & garden, signage, and pet products.  Specifically, he has:

  • Managed operations across the United States and Mexico.
  • Developed co-production partnerships in the U.S., China, and Western Europe.
  • Created supply-chain and compliance infrastructures to support demanding fulfillment requirements for major retailers such as Wal-Mart, Target, The Home Depot, Lowes, and Dollar General.
  • Executed productivity and cost savings programs resulting in several million-dollars of improved bottom line impact.
  • Directed new-product introductions from design to distribution, including engineering, packaging development, manufacturing processes, and appropriate supply strategies.

To compliment his passion for understanding how best to manage in the business environment, Jess has completed a Master’s Degree in Leadership and Organizational Development and a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Management. He is also teaching masters-level courses as an Adjunct Faculty Member for the Master’s Program for Leadership and Organizational Development at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.  Jess has also completed training in the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People from the Covey Leadership Center, Operational Excellence from Stanford University, and Doing Business in Mexico from University of Southern California.
